Our Story

“Livingston Farm to School” was founded in 2008 by local parents, educators and community panthers.  With an eye towards countywide expansion, we reorganized in 2017 as “Farm to School of Park County.”  As a natural next step in our organization’s maturation, we achieved independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in June 2020. 

What We Do

We ensure Park County children are given a strong, healthy start at school and in life. We work within local schools to provide early exposure to nutritious foods and a blueprint for healthy eating that can last a lifetime.

Our mission is to:

  • Partner with pre-K-12th grade Park County schools to shape lifelong food preferences as we teach schoolchildren the connection between the environment, their diet and their lifelong health;
  • Provide hands-on experiences for school children as we grow foods in school gardens, harvest, prepare and taste various fruits and vegetables, and develop kid-friendly recipes to enhance kids’ acceptance and enjoyment of healthy foods;
  • Work with schools to purchase and prioritize the use of fresh, healthy food in school meals;
  • Support local and regional economies through encouraging local food production and increasing schools’ purchasing of local foods;
  • Play a leadership role in the growing culture of health and wellness in Park County.


Farm to School of Park County enriches pre-K-12 curriculum in all Livingston schools and engages 100% of Livingston Public Schools’ pre-K-5 student population through hands-on food system, agriculture and nutrition lessons. 

Our goals are to:

  • Stabilize, expand and deepen the F2SPC curriculum throughout the Livingston school districts to strengthen its connection to the local producer economy;
  • Teach school children where their food comes from, how to grow, harvest, prepare, taste and enjoy it;
  • Deepen student understanding of soil, agriculture, environmental and nutritional sciences;
  • Partner with teachers, staff and families to increase F2SPC’s influence beyond our lessons;
  • Support mission-congruent community wellness goals.


Student-grown fruits and vegetables are harvested from all school gardens and greenhouses and purchased by the Livingston school district’s food service department for use in school meals.

Our goals are to:

  • Extend F2SPC support to growing plans in all Park County school gardens and growing spaces;
  • Maximize production in all F2SPC growing spaces;
  • Diversify production methods and partners to enhance learning opportunities.


F2SPC works closely with the Livingston School Food Service Director and other Park County schools to increase procurement of farm fresh foods, explore partnerships and contracts with local producers, develop new recipes, train food service staff and implement Smarter Lunchroom guidelines with assistance from Montana Team Nutrition.

Our goals are to:

  • Influence school-wide food culture to increase the quality of all foods available in the schools and create continuity from lessons to food preparation and consumption;
  • Provide food preparation and tasting opportunities specifically designed to deepen student appreciation for a wide variety of foods and shape taste preferences for nutritious foods that are the building blocks of a healthy diet;
  • Identify /develop procurement opportunities to support local food producers while maximizing value and nutrition (within budgetary constraints) for all county schools;
  • Develop a deep understanding of Park County’s food systems to develop action plans that optimize the quantity and quality of local foods grown and procured for school meals.


To ensure organizational sustainability, “Repeat” goals drive activities necessary to attain and manage resources, develop and fund high quality educational programs and maintain outreach capabilities.

Our goals are to:

  • Pursue funding opportunities and deepen relationships that support the economic health and well-being of F2SPC;
  • Optimize deployment of personnel to maximize our programs’ impact and to achieve Montana educational or curriculum objectives;
  • Proactively communicate with the community and our stakeholders so they know what we are doing, understand our successes and challenges, and share a sense of progress in our mission.
